Iranian new wave Cinema started just before the revolution. In the late 70s there were a series of films that dealt with more social issues such as lack of opportunities, Westernisation, the gap both cultural and financial between the rich and the poor. This particular film was about a wanted revolutionary student who takes refuge at the house of an old friend. A dignified home boy who was once a powerful figure in the neighbourhood and who due to addiction to opium had become a feeble shadow of a human being. The encounter rejuvenates the addicts character and he takes action to regain his former dignity.

Title: Samad goes to school.
This was a series of social critic comedies about a peasant boy who was very shrewd and funny. The character represented the cultural shift that many had experienced from rural life into a life and work in the city, or staying in the village it would show misplaced interactions with westernised city dwellers. Very cleverly acted, written and directed by the very popular Parviz Sayyad who made some of the best programs, films of pre and post revolution ( in diaspora).
